Now You Can Make Longer Music Tracks in the Gemini App
If you've ever wanted to score your own presentation or create a custom background track for a video project, your creative toolkit just got a major upgrade. Google is expanding access to Lyria 3 Pro in the Gemini app, allowing more users to generate high-quality musical tracks up to three minutes long.
What was previously a feature for select high-end editions is now rolling out to a much broader range of Business, Enterprise, Education, and personal accounts.
1. More Time, More Control
The shift from short loops to full-length tracks (up to 180 seconds) is powered by the Lyria 3 Pro model. But it’s not just about the length; it’s about the structural intelligence of the AI:
- Musical Composition: Lyria 3 Pro understands the anatomy of a song. You can now prompt for specific structural elements like intros, verses, choruses, bridges, and outros.
- Style Mastery: Whether you need a lo-fi study beat, a cinematic orchestral swell, or an upbeat corporate background track, the model is designed to maintain stylistic consistency throughout the longer duration.
- Multilingual Support: Music generation is currently available globally and supports prompts in languages including English, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French.
2. Who Gets Access Now?
Starting this week, access has expanded to several new tiers.
- New Additions: Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Frontline Starter/Standard/Plus, and Nonprofits.
- Personal Accounts: Users with Google AI Plus (personal accounts) who are 18+ can now also access these longer tracks.
- Existing Users: Business/Enterprise Standard and Plus, as well as AI Pro/Ultra subscribers, continue to have access as they did previously.
3. How to Start Creating
- Finding the Tool: Open the Gemini app and select “Create music” from the tools menu.
- The Prompt: Try being specific. Instead of just "happy music," try: "Create a 3-minute upbeat synth-pop track with an atmospheric intro, two driving verses, and a soaring chorus, suitable for a tech product launch video."
- Safety & Guardrails: Access is restricted to users over 18. Admins also maintain control via the Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin console.
4. From an Editor’s Perspective: The Creative Shift
A three-minute track is a significant milestone for AI music. It moves the technology out of the realm of "novelty soundbites" and into the realm of functional media production. For small businesses, educators, and creators who can't afford licensed music or custom composers, this tool provides a unique way to own their sound.
The fact that you can now direct the AI on the structure of the song (verses vs. bridges) shows that Google is treating music not just as audio, but as a narrative. If you’ve been sticking to stock music libraries, it’s worth checking your Gemini app this week; your new signature track might be just a prompt away.
Google’s investment in AI music generation, powered by DeepMind’s Lyria models, signals a future where creativity becomes more accessible and scalable. As AI continues to evolve, tools like Gemini are not just assisting creativity; they are actively reshaping how content is created, shared, and experienced. The expansion of longer music track generation in Gemini is more than just a feature update; it’s a glimpse into the future of AI-driven creativity.
With the ability to create full-length songs instantly, users can now move beyond experimentation and start producing meaningful, high-quality audio content directly within a conversational AI interface.
